The three pillars of our mission are education, research and direct patient care. Education is primary to NEF. We actively fund and support educational conferences and seminars at Yale University, Norwalk Hospital, the University of Connecticut, and other agencies where physicians, respiratory therapists, and nurses are instructed in the latest scientific advances and treatments for chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. At the Yale University State Conference, sponsored by NEF, renowned visiting professors and distinguished researchers interact with attendees and share vast stores of knowledge and experience at weekly sessions throughout the year. Similar sessions are also sponsored weekly at Norwalk Hospital. Clinical research is integral to our mission. NEF is actively involved in sponsoring an ongoing outcome study at Norwalk Hospital. Approximately 200 patients with varying degrees of debility are involved in this study, which compiles a broad spectrum of data on current treatments, their complications, and outcomes. The study focuses on data sets that indicate the best of treatments and best of outcomes. Clinical research is integral to our mission.
