The Social Security Administration (SSA) is the Federal agency responsible for the Social Security retirement, survivors benefits, and disability insurance program, as well as the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. The SSA pays benefits to retired or disabled workers and their eligible dependents, as well as to eligible survivors of deceased workers. SSI payments are made to people who are blind, have disabilities, or are 65 years of age and older with limited incomes or resources.
