The Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf is a non-profit membership organization that exists to: Encourage people who are deaf or hard of hearing to communicate by developing maximal use of residual hearing, speech reading, and speech and language skills. Promote better public understanding of hearing loss in children and adults. Promote detection of hearing loss in early infancy, as well as prompt early intervention and continued use of appropriate hearing aids. Inform, encourage, and empower adults who are deaf or hard of hearing to function independently. Collaborate on research relating to auditory/verbal communication. Provide in service training for teachers of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Provide scholarships for prelingually deaf students attending universities and colleges. Gather and disseminate information on hearing loss, including its causes and options for treatment. Collaborate with physicians, audiologists, speech/language specialists, and educators to promote educational, vocational, and social opportunities for individuals of all ages who are deaf or hard of hearing.
