My 6 y/o has no focus, attention span or concentration....ADHD?
My son will be 6 in May. He's always had alot of energy and been very active. He will sit still for a book but no longer than that. If he watches a movie, he is wiggling, playing with his hands/feet, whispering to himself or repeating the words to the movie. When he plays, he is always sliding on floors, jumping, hopping, etc. There is no such thing as self play with my son. He is constantly coming to tell me or my husband about what he is playing and goes into complete detail about it. E.i. If he is playing Knights, he will go into full detail about what his armor looks like, his sword, his boots, the kind of forest he is in, what his castle looks like and how they fight the dragons...and this goes on for the entire day! He is in kindergarten but we live in Germany (moved from the US about 3 1/2 months ago) and its totally different than the kindergarten he is used to. Its like day care and is only 3.5 hrs a day. Does this sound "normal"? ADHD maybe? He has seen a doc but the doc told
me that a teacher would have to fill out papers and so would my husband and I. His teacher in the US "never got around to it" and then we moved. Im afraid that when he starts 1st grade next year he will be totally distracted and fall behind in school and I dont want that. He is a very intelligent little boy. I just dont want his lack of attention span and concentration to cause problems for him in school. I dont want him to be the "naughty" kid who is always being told to stop talking or to pay attention. Someone please help! Should he be seen by another doc and possibly be put on medication? Is your child on medication for ADHD? Did it help?
