My dog has arthritis in his hips & he has been on rimadyl. The vet has told me that when his condition worsens there are monthly injections that he can be given that give the dog a new lease on life.

If your veterinarian has diagnosed your dog with arthritis, they should have prescribed an anti-inflammatory. In my experience, the most often used anti-inflammatory drug is Rimadyl. There are also others like Deramaxx & Metacam.

DO NOT give your pet any medications without your veterinarian's advice.

Ask your Veterinarian. He or she should have prescribed something when they diagnosed your dog. My 13 year old Lab mix is on Glucosamine supplements and anti-inflammatory meds. CALL THE VET and do not give the dog anything over the counter without checking with the Vet first!

I would reccomend a herbal substance called "Devils Claw"
Look up herbal remedies for horses. - Farm stores shops sell a lot of products without perscription - do your reading first. They will also have drugs to control the inflamation.
Some dog breeds are prone to arthritus unfortunately. A change in diet will also help.

You would need to see your' vet so he/she can find the pain killer and anti-inflammatory which suit your' dog. My GSD has osteo-arthritis in her front elbows and shoulders. At the moment it is controllable with Prevacox and Tramadol. You may find that your' dog will need hip replacements in time, mine has had both replaced. Sorry you are going through this too, hope all goes well for you both.

My rottweiler also has arthritis, and our very well know and expensive veterinarian has her on a terriffic medication called Glycoflex which you can purchase at www.drsfosterandsmith.com, or buy directly through your vets office, they will give you the correct dosage for your breed dog and weight, but I believe you can check the weight online at the website I gave you under the medication description. They have a pill similar to glycoflex that is cheaper and gives the same relief, check it out, gota save where you can (especially since I have 4 dogs) Good Luck

P.s. you DO NOT need a prescription for this med on this website which is great also.

Well i have had a lab who had it, and at first i gave her pills (rimady). They worked fine but i decided to stop giving her pills and she was fine as well. So you could give her pills but its not really needed. (I would give her pills at first though.) Other pills-Deramaxx & Metacam.

Hope she gets through it, i wish her luck.
