The report on the Illinois school shooting states that the shooter went off his medications and became erratic, purchased some guns, and went on a rampage at a nearby college.
Now, my question is this... The moment you are diagnosed as being mentally unstable (you can debate what that entails on another day) should you not be added to a blacklist, that prevents you from being able to purchase firearms ? This would of course include previous owned guns being removed from your ownership. Police would be notified whenever someone was diagnosed, and they would have a deadline by which to turnover all weapons, or be charged, if found to later have any in their possession. |

First, we don't know what kind of medication he was on, that we went off of. It could have been anything. Just because someone has a mental illness doesn't mean they're killers. Guns shouldn't be sold anyhow but if you want to kill someone with one, you'll find one.

You're operating on too many assumptions here: we don't know if he was on the meds when he got the gun, he may have gone on them later. Also, we don't even know that he necessarily went and bought the gun from a reputable dealer, or bought it at all for that matter, it could be someone else's.
