Sleep Apnea can kill.
Hi all. Just wanted to share our experience with apnea. While I do believe 80% of all cases are caused by a hormone disorder that is never diagnosed. My husbands was severe and only because of the apnea did we find the real cause. And I know of a man who was not so lucky. He died in his sleep. I knew this man and his daughter and he looked just like my husband did, asleep every time he sat down. Exremely swelled and puffy, exhausted. I wish I had said something to him. They found him dead and said he just quit breathing in his sleep. And another woman who died in hospital in her sleep while on pain medication for her leg surgery. They did not include her Cpap in her treatment and I believe a lawsuit is ongoing. Yes it is serious. Now back to my husbands diagnosis of severe hypothyroidism. While on treatment for apnea he took 6 months to get his thyroid levels up. Had to go slow because he had so much fluid around his heart. And everywhere else. As soon as he got it up his apnea started to dwendle down. He was getting better. He no longer had to sleep in the recliner to breath every nite and he gradually weaned hisself off the machine. And he has lost over 80lbs. Amazing but true. Our advice is get your hormone levels checked to see if it could be the cause.
