FDA panel wants use of Sanofi-Aventis antibiotic to be restricted

A panel of advisers of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Sanofi-Aventis antibiotic Ketek should continue to be made available in the market but its use should be limited to treating pneumonia. The panel had looked at instances of the drug causing liver failure and other problems but found that its benefits while treating pneumonia outweighed risks though the risks were higher when it is used in the treatment of bronchitis or sinusitis. ...
