Cerebral palsy is an umbrella-like term used to describe a group of chronic disorders impairing control of movement that appear in the first few years of life and generally do not worsen over time. Palsy is a medical term derived from the word paralysis and meaning paralysis of a body part often accompanied by loss of feeling and uncontrolled body movements such as shaking. It occurs in the name of several medical conditions including cerebral palsy (caused by some intracranial lesions) and brachial palsy (paralysis of an arm).
