Thalomid (thalidomide) is used to treat the debilitating and disfiguring skin inflammation that is sometimes a reaction to erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL), an inflammatory complication of leprosy and to prevent and control its return. When there is inflammation of the nerves in addition to skin sores, Thalomid (thalidomide) should not be used as the only drug treatment. Efficacy in HIV disease has not been proven.

Macular degeneration is a progressive eye condition affecting as many as 15 million Americans and millions more around the world. The disease attacks the macula of the eye, where our sharpest central vision occurs. Although it rarely results in complete blindness, it robs the individual of all but the outermost, peripheral vision, leaving only dim images or black holes at the center of vision.
