Ramipril (marketed as Tritace® or Altace®) is an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, used to treat high blood pressure and congestive heart failure. ACE inhibitors lower the production of Angiotensin II, therefore relaxing arterial muscles while at the same time enlarging the arteries, allowing the heart to pump blood easier, and increasing blood flow due to more blood being pumped into and through bigger passageways.

High blood pressure is a blood pressure reading of 140/90 mmHg or higher. Both numbers are important. Nearly one in three American adults has high blood pressure. Once high blood pressure develops, it usually lasts a lifetime. The good news is that it can be treated and controlled.
