GAD is a psychological disorder that can have serious physical, emotional, and social consequences. Numerous studies evaluating treatments for GAD have been conducted. However, studies involving older individuals with GAD are less common. This study will compare two treatments for GAD in older adults.
Participants in this study will be randomly assigned to receive either CBT or care as usual for at least 8 weeks. Assessments will be conducted before treatment, after treatment, and for 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after the study. The severity of worry, anxiety, depression, and other symptoms that accompany anxiety will be assessed. Participants will continue to receive ongoing care for anxiety from their primary care physicians throughout the study. Clinical, functional, and satisfaction outcomes will be measured at the end of the study.
