Cardiomyopathy, which literally means "heart muscle disease", is the deterioration of the function of the myocardium (i.e., the actual heart muscle) for any reason. Cardiomyopathy of any cause typically leads to signs and symptoms of heart failure as the pumping efficiency of the heart is diminished.
