Purpose

The purpose of this study is to determine if ruboxistaurin can help slow the worsening of an eye disease called macular edema in patients with diabetes.

Eligibility

Ages Eligible for Study:  18 Years and above,  Genders Eligible for Study:  Both

Criteria

Inclusion Criteria:

  • You must have type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must have been diagnosed with mild diabetic eye disease.
  • You must have good vision.
  • You must be able to return to all follow-up visits.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • You have had surgery or laser treatment on your eyes, you currently have bleeding in your eyes, or you have certain eye conditions such as glaucoma.
  • You have other medical problems which your doctor feels would make it unsafe for you to participate in this study such as liver or kidney problems.
  • You cannot have adequate eye photographs taken.
  • You currently have uncontrolled high blood pressure or blood sugar.
  • You are a woman of childbearing age and unwilling or unable to use effective contraception.
