Serentil® (mesoridazine besylate) is a neuroleptic drug that is used in the treatment of schizophrenia, organic brain disorders, psychoneuroses, and alcoholism. It is the besylate salt of a metabolite of thioridazine. It exerts its actions through a central adrenergic-blocking, a dopamine-blocking, a serotonin-blocking, and a weak anticholinergic action. It also exerts part of its actions through depression of hypothalamic centers, like other phenothiazines.
