Purpose

The purpose of this study is to determine the long term safety and effectiveness of vildagliptin, an unapproved drug, compared to the safety and effectiveness of a marketed drug when added to another marketed drug for type 2 diabetes.

Ages Eligible for Study: 18 Years - 73 Years, Genders Eligible for Study: Both

Criteria

Inclusion Criteria:

On a stable maximum dose of specified marketed drug
Blood glucose criteria must be met

Exclusion Criteria:

Pregnancy or lactation
Type 1 diabetes
Evidence of significant diabetic complications
